Erlenmeyer Flasks
A selection of Erlenmeyer glass flasks. These conical glass flasks are made from Borosilicate 3 glass, so they have high thermal resistance, chemical durability and excellent optical clarity.
Their narrow neck can be used with stoppers when conducting sealed reaction experiments and gas collection. The lab flasks have an easy-to-read white measuring scale and marking block made from fired-on ceramic enamel. This means the scale markings are chemically resistant and highly durable.
These conical glass flasks are available in 250ml, 500ml and 1000ml sizes. They are suitable for a wide range of pharmaceutical and scientific uses, including titration, mixing and dissolving, and heating. They can also be used for microbial cultures, including culturing bacteria or yeast.
The benefits of Erlenmeyer glass flasks
- Spill prevention: The sloped side and narrow neck are designed to allow the contents to be mixed or swirled without the liquid splashing out.
- High stability: The broad, flat base gives a high degree of stability, so the flask won't get knocked over easily
- Reduced evaporation: The narrow neck helps to reduce liquid loss and vapour escape.
- Easy to seal: The narrow neck is suitable for a wide range of stoppers and caps.
Common industry applications for Erlenmeyer glass flasks
- Chemical titrations: The conical shape and narrow neck mean the liquid can be safely swirled as the titrant is added
- Boiling liquids: The sloped walls are designed to allow hot vapours to condense and return to the flask, reducing liquid loss during heating.
- Storage and mixing: Erlenmeyer flasks are traditionally used to experiment with and store chemical solutions.
- Microbial and cell culture experiments: The glass flask can be fitted with a breathable cap to facilitate the growth of bacteria and cell cultures.
