Tournaire's BPA-free bottles

Tournaire, the leading aluminium packaging manufacturer, offers a proven BPA-free internal coating (VSB), which has been successfully used for many years across a wide range of applications. This innovative VSB finish is free from BPA and all other Bisphenols, whilst still providing the durable protection necessary for concentrate liquids.

Regulatory anticipation and coating innovation have long been part of Tournaire’s technical expertise and market leadership. Their proactive approach means that customers using BPA-based coatings for EU food-contact applications have been able to transition to BPA-free alternatives well ahead of the July 2026 EU deadline.

Mainland UK is still waiting for the outcome of the FSA’s proposed BPA ban, but it seems likely that it will be ratified, aligning Britain with Europe and Northern Ireland.

Tournaire's BPA-free bottles are available exclusively from Invopak, giving businesses the opportunity to be fully compliant ahead of any legislation. Whatever the UK government decides, there are other reasons why it pays for food businesses to be proactive in removing BPAs from their packaging.

The Benefits of BPA-free packaging

BPAs can potentially leach into foods, particularly at higher temperatures. This is of concern because research suggests that BPAs can interfere with endocrine disruptors affecting the reproductive system, immune system and foetal development. Increased public awareness of the potential harm of BPA means it makes sense for food and beverage businesses to use BPA-free packaging.

Food businesses that export goods into the EU will need to be compliant with BPA regulations from July 20th 2026. The EU's ban on BPA includes any material that is food-facing. This means everything from single-use water bottles to buckets, flexible liners, laminations, adhesives and varnishes is also affected, and must be certified BPA-free.

As Scott Sandilands, Invopak’s CRO, explains,

“UK food businesses should check before the Summer whether they will be affected by the EU's BPA ban. This gives food producers time to test alternative products and switch if necessary, ahead of any legislative changes in the EU or UK."

Tournaire's Plain Bottles: Naturally BPA-free

Tournaire's plain aluminium bottles have no internal finish; they are made from raw aluminium. This means they are naturally BPA-free, so they are unaffected by the BPA legislation. Plain aluminium bottles are a good option for oil-based food products, such as edible oils.

Invopak has always been proactive in sourcing the best packaging, and our long-standing partnership with Tournaire stands as a testament to that. As Scott highlights,

"Tournaire is really leading the way when it comes to metal food packaging, and we’re pleased to be partnering with them in bringing these products to the UK-market.”
